Before: The planting in the garden was overgrown and congested making it impossible for the client to look after in the time available to them and there was nowhere to sit to enjoy the evening sun after work. The client with a very limited budget wanted to keep the large lawn area and also the existing paving by the house. Predominately evergreen planting along with grasses and bright coloured flowers was requested.
Design Solution: The shapeless lawn was redefined to a strong geometric shape which linked in with an extended seating area by the house and a new west facing seating area for the evening was added. Narrower borders with stepping stone paths though provided easy access for maintenance. Structure was provided by clipped box, bamboos and other architectural plants. Grasses softened the planting and extended the season of interest and flowering herbaceous plants provided spring interest close to the house and vibrant summer colour further down the garden.
